Gomde UK is relatively a small organisation yet with Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche’s help and guidance, we have always looked to the long view, the bigger picture. Since 2010 we have worked steadily on various environmental initiatives, each one contributing to our key strategy regarding purposeful climate action.
We simply seek to do our best, joyfully embracing responsibility and play our part in contributing to a healthy future for current and future generations of humans, all other species and our planet. We are now in the remarkable position to announce plans for the Centre to become net zero by 2022.
A snap–shot of the net zero plan
What will it take to achieve net Zero?
* We need new infrastructure – the upgrade of electrical transformer and supply cables.
* The purchase and installation of new PV array, smart meter, battery and heat pumps.
The Benefits
* Carbon footprint into net zero
* Helps with the long-term financial viability of Gomde by reducing costs and generating income
* Gomde UK can become an inspirational real life example for sustainable living. Significantly, this influences behaviour and helps make wider change happen.
The Cost
Upgrade Electric Supply: £27,000
40kw Solar Panels Installed: £30,000
13 kw Battery: £8,500
Additional 4 Heat Pumps: £3,500
Total cost: £69,000
As the Buddha advised on all things, ‘check for yourselves’ – are the environmental benefits worth the investment?
