Leave a Legacy
“Be calm, kind and clear. This is the most valuable thing we human beings can learn, train in and master. To be happy and live in harmony, liberate our minds and free others: this is my deep wish.”
Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche
Leave a gift in your will
Thank you for considering Gomde in your planned giving. By including Gomde UK in your estate and financial planning, you are playing a key role in securing the future of the centre. Any gift you give will ensure we are able to continue our mission to fulfil Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche’s aspirations to provide an international centre for the teachings of the Buddha. Our centre supports that vision through seminars, teachings, events, community work, environmental projects and the building of the temple.

If you decide to leave a gift in your will then you create a lasting connection with Gomde UK and directly benefit so many beings both now and into the future. You will play a part in our work for future generations.
Why Should I write a will?
Your will provides you with the opportunity to take care of everything that is important to you. After taking care of family and friends, you may wish to leave a gift to Gomde UK. Planned gifts can also provide you with valuable tax benefits.
generations.
How do I write a will?
Many people think that it is difficult and complicated to write a will but in fact it is relatively straightforward. However, you should always seek professional advice beforehand.

There is information on how to write a will including what you should put in your will, how to make sure it’s legal, how to store it and how to make changes to it later on the UK Government’s website.

You can find a solicitor who can help draw up your will on the Law Society website. They can provide details of solicitors in your area, including those who specialise in wills.

You can also write your own will independently, and there are several will-writing starter packs available online that can guide you to do this. However, we would still recommend getting legal advice as there may be important steps or details that you want a professional to check.

If you would like to leave a gift to Gomde UK and live outside of the UK please seek advice from the relevant body for your country of residence.
I already have a will, how do I change it?
If you want to leave a gift to Gomde but you’ve already made a will, that’s no problem – there are a couple of ways you can change it.

Write a new will
The simplest way is to write a new will. Once written, any wills made by you in the past become void. In fact, most wills will start by reciting that you’re writing a will and that you’re revoking previous wills.

Codicils
You can ask your solicitor to add a codicil to your will. Codicils are documents used as a way to make simple changes to an existing will like adding a charity, changing a gift amount or adding an executor.
What type of gift can I leave?
Most people leave a sum of money or a specific donation amount in their will but this is not the only kind of gift you can leave in your will.

A gift of a fixed sum of money, known as a pecuniary legacy, this means you name a specific amount that you would like Gomde to receive. You can also tell us what area of our work you would like the gift to be used for such as our environmental work or towards the Thubten Chökor Ling Temple. Or you may simply prefer to trust us to make the best decision regarding the use of your gift.

A proportion of your remaining estate. This is called a residual legacy. Once the primary named individuals in your will receive what you have left them and any debts and funeral expenses have been paid, you can specify a percentage of what remains to go to Gomde. Sometimes this is the easier choice if you are planning on leaving a legacy to more than one charity.

A specific gift or named item. This can be any piece of property you own, such as a house, land or stocks and shares. It can also be personal possessions such as jewellery.
