The Courtyard Complex
The quadrangle development is designed to provide facilities for people to gather and study, practice, meditate and reflect of the Buddha’s teaching. It’s designed in harmony with the existing architecture of the estate with some modern elements to utilise the beauty and tranquility of the site. The complex is mainly cited around an existing courtyard which includes the historic hall, with all buildings being linked by a glazed cloister.
South Wing
The south wing is a self contained retreat wing with 10 rooms overlooking the southern parkland (Rinpoche’s favourite view!) Each room is ensuite and retreatants will have a shared kitchen and direct access to the private retreat land to the south of the estate.
North Wing
The north wing is the largest addition of the courtyard complex reflecting the original historic coach house format including the 3 story tower with dovecot. This building provides commercial kitchen and laundry facilities, a large dining room with seating for 150 people, accommodation on the two upper floors and a range of teaching, meeting rooms and offices.
Information shop and accommodation
The shop and cafe will be sited on the road to the temple, located between the car park and the courtyard. It will provide a stopping off place for visitors to relax, refresh and visit the temple and public mandala gardens. The shop/cafe will have two self contained flats above.
Studio workshop
The studio workshop is currently under construction. Construction of the studio workshop began in 2017 and, apart from the concrete foundation all work has been undertaken by our trusty building team — David, Glenn and Daniel. It is a fully insulated, wooden framed building 18 m x 18 m and will provide a home for the building and garden teams.
