Sunday 31st May | 10.00am – 3.00pmOn the day, we will be reciting the Lalitavistara Sutra, also known as The Play in Full. This beautiful sutra tells the story of how Buddha Shakyamuni manifested in this world and attained enlightenment, making it especially precious to recite on Saga Dawa Düchen. We will each recite a different part of the sutra — together reciting the whole. If we are many, we can recite the whole sutra a number of times!
If you are able to stay for lunch, please let us know by writing to Joanne so we can prepare enough food for everyone.

The Month of Saga Dawa
Saga Dawa is one of the most important periods in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. This year, it runs from 17th May to 16th June, with the full moon day on 31st May known as Saga Dawa Düchen. This auspicious day commemorates the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana. In Tibetan, it is also known as Bumgyur Dawa, the “hundred-thousand multiplying month,” when the fruits of our actions are said to be greatly multiplied.
It is an especially precious time to recite the Dharma, engage in practice, make aspirations and dedicate our merit for the benefit of all beings.
Making an Offering
Saga Dawa is a beautiful time to make offerings towards Dharma activities for the benefit of all beings.During this month, a kind anonymous donor has offered to match all donations made towards Thubten Chökor Ling Temple, so every offering received will be doubled. This donor has generously supported a matching gift before, helping us raise over £8,000 which became £16,000 for the temple. We are deeply moved that they have offered this support again during such an auspicious time.
As construction progresses, your kind offering will go towards the next phase: raising the steel structure of the temple.
In the Buddhist tradition, supporting the building of a temple is a deeply meaningful act of generosity. A temple is a sacred physical vessel of the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, a place where the Dharma can be preserved, practised and shared; where teachings, prayers and aspirations can continue for generations; and where countless beings may find connection, inspiration and benefit.
May all offerings made during this auspicious month be dedicated to the flourishing of the Dharma and the benefit of all beings.
